1996 Corvette Collectors Edition LT4 – 1 Of Only 172 Built Low Documented Miles!
With 1995 marking the end of the C4 Corvette ZR1, Chevrolet sought to fill the gap in 1996 with two special editions, the Grand Sport and Collector Edition. The Collector Edition was intended more to celebrate the success of the C4 rather than its performance and racing pedigree. Available only in Sebring Silver Metallic with a choice of three interior colors, black, gray or Torch Red, the Collector Edition offered customers a much more subtle package than the Grand Sport. It came standard with the 300 HP LT1 5.7L V-8 engine and an automatic transmission, the only transmission available on an LT1 in 1996. However, the performance capabilities of the Grand Sport could be included in a Collector Edition if the buyer opted for the 6-speed transmission, which upgraded the engine to the 330 HP LT4, turning the otherwise subtle rocket into a subtle all-out beast. Produced under relatively tight budget constraints, the LT4 revved and pulled with the smoothness of a jet engine, propelling the Corvette from 0-60 MPH in 4.9 seconds, which was ZR1 territory. Only 172 out of 1,797 Collector Editions were produced with the F45 suspension in this configuration, and this is one of them. The F45 Selective Real-Time Dampening Suspension System allows drivers to select exactly the driving characteristic they prefer. This particular example has only traveled 36,816 miles from new. This car also boasts the optional removable roof panel, something only 20% 1996 Corvettes were ordered with. Equipped with Preferred Equipment Group 1, this Corvette features the black interior with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, perforated leather seating surfaces and special Collector Edition embroidery. All Collector Editions used ZR1-style 17-inch, 5-spoke aluminum wheels covering 4-wheel disc brakes. One of the most subtle yet exciting Corvettes ever issued, this 1996 Collector Edition has been adult driven since new.
