Using such production engine components as the block cylinder heads and crankshaft of the stock 8.0 liter V-10 engine racing engineers heavily massaged the Viper to produce the GTS-R. Sporting a chassis that was reworked by renowned race car manufacturer Reynard and its chief engineer Paul Brown much of the standard versions heavy tube steel frame and fiberglass inner structure in favor of lightweight yet strong carbon fiber.

Aerodynamics were improved by the addition of a rear wing rear diffuser and front splitter in addition to scoops and vents that helped increase engine and interior cooling. The GTS-R was a fire-breathing 700 horsepower beast that won an incredible five FIA GT Championships between 1997 and 2002.

It helped establish the Vipers serious chops in both American and European road racing. In 1998 the GTS-R became the first American car to win at Le Mans since the famous Ford GT40 and the first production-based American car ever to take the checkered flag first at the famed 24-hour race.

That year Dodge built 100 GTS-Rs for public sale. GTS-R number 24 is finished in Stone White with Viper Blue stripes and a two-tone blue and black leather upholstery. This rocket has 220 miles since new and packs a 460 horsepower version of the Viper V-10 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. It rides on 18-inch BBS forged aluminum wheels and features red Oreca-logo 5-point racing harnesses serialized plaque on its console and its original car cover. Documentation includes a welcome letter from Viper plant manager William Hinckley the original window sticker a document book poster magazine articles clean Carfax books and manuals.
